The customer’s WiFi
A password that changed, a guest network that isolates clients, a router in a locked suite, a building manager who is off site. You are standing in a mechanical room waiting on someone else’s IT. This meter never asks for the network.
The firewall and the IT ticket
Commercial tenants do not hand out network access to a plumbing contractor, and the ticket to get a device whitelisted can outlast the job. Cellular sidesteps the conversation entirely — the meter has its own managed SIM.
Pulling comms wire
Wired metering means running cable from every meter back to a collector: fishing finished walls, coring, firestopping, coordinating with other trades. Here there is nothing to pull. The meter is the whole install.
The callback you do not get paid for
A gateway that lost power, a repeater someone unplugged, a meter that stopped reporting for a reason nobody can see from the office. Fewer parts in the chain means fewer reasons to drive back.
It fits the mechanical room you actually get
Not the one in the manufacturer’s drawing, with three feet of clear pipe either side of the meter position.

Threaded inline, both sizes
DN20 for 3/4" line on a G1 B thread, DN25 for 1" line on a G5/4 B thread. It goes in like any inline meter — isolate, thread, test.
Horizontal or vertical upward
Mount it flat or on a riser with the flow upward. That is two more positions than a lot of the mechanical meters you are replacing.
IP68 — wet rooms and pits
Submersible rated, so a flooded pit, a buried box or a dripping mechanical room is not a warranty conversation. Watch signal rather than water: a steel lid or a deep vault can block cellular.

The whole install
There is no commissioning visit, no pairing step, no gateway to mount and no site network to configure.
Isolate
Close the shutoff either side of the meter position and drain the line.
Thread it in
Flow arrow downstream. PTFE tape or approved paste — never hemp. Horizontal, or vertical with flow upward.
Pressure-test
Restore flow, check the joints, confirm the display wakes on a touch of the button.
Check signal before you close up
If it is going into a pit or a metal-lidded box, read the signal screen first and keep the meter near grade.
Walk away
It is already online. No pairing, no configuration, no network to join — the cellular link starts on its own.
Typical time per meter once the line is isolated: under an hour. That is an estimate drawn from the steps above, not a quoted duration — scope the real job against the building.
In an occupied multi-residential building the schedule risk is suite access and riser isolation, not the meter. Send us a riser diagram with your application and we will work through the per-door sequence with you.

Why the work is there
Three numbers worth knowing before you decide whether metering is a line of business or a favour you do for one client.
of Canadian households on a municipal water supply reported having a water meter in 2023. The majority of that housing stock is still unmetered.
Statistics Canada, 2023committed by the Province of British Columbia in May 2025 to install nearly 15,000 automated water meters across 19 small, rural and First Nations communities.

City of Toronto, 2025The Toronto number is the one to sit with. Those are endpoints that died early inside somebody’s proprietary radio layer, and every one of them is a truck roll. When the communication path is a carrier network instead of hardware the customer bought, there is no collector, repeater or head-end in the chain for you to get called back to.

Monitoring as a service
Once the meters are in, somebody has to watch them, act on the leak alerts and produce the monthly numbers. That is a service a property manager will pay a trade they already trust to provide — and it is the part of the job that recurs after the pipe work is finished.
Unlimited logins, no per-seat fee
You can hold a view of every site you have equipped and still give the owner, the manager and the on-site staff their own logins. There is no per-user charge to work around when you scope a service agreement.
The alert is the sales call
A continuous-flow alert on a Sunday night is a real, dated, documented event you can show a client. It is the most credible reason a property manager ever has to expand a metering program to the rest of the portfolio.
What we are not going to do is print a margin or a commission percentage on a landing page. There is no published wholesale schedule and we are not going to invent one to get your email address. Partner pricing is a conversation with a person, against a real volume, and it ends in writing.

The questions installers actually ask
What happens after I submit the application?
A person at MaxLinc reads it and contacts you, usually by phone. There is no partner portal to log into, no automatic approval and no pricing sheet that downloads on submit. We would rather tell you that here than have you discover it after filling in a form.
Is there a published wholesale price list?
No. There is no wholesale tier published on this site, and we are not going to put a discount percentage on a landing page and then renegotiate it with you later. Partner pricing is worked out against the volume you actually install and confirmed in writing.
Do you sell direct to my customer?
Yes — MaxLinc sells direct from this site, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. What we have not built is an exclusivity or protected-territory program, so we are not going to claim one. If deal registration or a referral arrangement matters to you, raise it on the call and we will give you a straight answer.
How much straight pipe do I need either side?
None. The meter is rated U0/D0, which means zero pipe diameters of straight run required upstream or downstream. You can put it hard against a tee, an elbow or a shutoff. That rating is the main reason it fits in mechanical rooms where a legacy meter would force a repipe.
Do I have to get onto the customer’s WiFi or open a firewall port?
No. There is no site network involved at any point. The meter has a managed SIM inside it and reports over cellular with coverage across North America — nothing to pair, no password to chase, no IT ticket, no gateway to mount and power.
What cellular technology and bands does it use?
Ask us and we will confirm it in writing for your submittal. We are deliberately not publishing a radio generation or band list on this page until it is confirmed by the manufacturer in writing, because a spec you quote to an engineer needs to be right rather than fast.
What is the body made of?
Same answer, same reason: we are not publishing a body-material or wetted-material claim until we hold written confirmation from the manufacturer. If your client’s spec requires a stated material or a potable-water certificate, tell us on the application and we will get you the documented answer before you quote it.
Can I mount it vertically?
Yes — horizontal, or vertical with the flow upward. Flow arrow downstream either way. PTFE tape or an approved paste on the threads, never hemp.
My client’s service is bigger than 1 inch. Do you fit?
Not on the main. These are DN20 (3/4") and DN25 (1") only. On a larger service they are still useful downstream — tenant sub-lines, irrigation feeds, deduct meters, individual suites and make-up lines. Send us the line size and we will tell you honestly whether we fit rather than sell you the wrong meter.
What happens at battery end of life, and who gets that callback?
The battery is sealed to maintain the IP68 rating, so the meter gets replaced rather than opened. It is rated for more than 6 years, and a low-battery alert comes up well ahead of time — which makes it a scheduled swap you can quote, not an outage somebody calls you about on a Friday.
Will it survive a flooded pit or a wet mechanical room?
Yes, the body is IP68 and rated for submersion and buried installation. The thing that will actually bite you is signal, not water. A steel lid or a deep concrete vault can block cellular, so read the signal screen before you close it up and keep the meter near grade.
What about a seasonal or unheated building?
Treat it like any water meter: drain and winterize the line before shutdown. The meter tolerates −25 °C ambient when it is empty, but water left standing inside can freeze and split any meter, ours included. Drained meters left in place keep reporting their status, so a no-upload alert still tells you if one goes quiet.
What does my client pay after the first year?
Cellular connectivity is prepaid for ten years when the meter is bought, so there is nothing ongoing for the data. The app and Canadian cloud hosting are included for the first year, then $1.00 CAD per meter per month from Year 2, with no contract and no revenue share.
Can I start with one meter?
Yes. Meters are sold individually at the published prices on this page, so you can put one on a real building before you commit to anything. Most contractors who end up in the program start that way.
