Alarms and subscriptions, made simple

Every device starts with a full year of Premium, free. Here is what happens after that, what each plan includes, and how text and phone-call alarms are paid for.

These plans apply to EDGE and BLOCK monitors. NFC MicroTherm tags and the cellular water meter have their own terms.

Every device

Year one is on us

Every device includes one year of Premium, free. The year starts the day you activate the device, not the day you bought it.

What happens when the free year endsTwo timelines that start the same way. WiFi and cellular devices both get twelve months of Premium free from activation. At month twelve a WiFi device rolls over to the Free Standard tier on its own, with an optional upgrade at about $17.78 a year (about $1.48 a month), billed annually. A cellular device continues on a paid subscription at about $26.67 a year (about $2.22 a month), billed annually, which includes unlimited global data; its card is added at registration and first charged at month twelve.ACTIVATIONMONTH 12year 2 and beyondWiFidevicesPremium, freeFree Standard tier, automaticallyor upgrade to Premium anytime: ~$17.78/yearCellulardevicesPremium, freePaid subscription: ~$26.67/yearunlimited global data includedcard added at registration, $0 chargedfirst charge

Same start for everyone

WiFi or cellular, the first twelve months are full Premium: full history, advanced reports and team sharing.

Month 12 is the fork

What happens next depends only on how the device connects: over your WiFi, or over its own cellular data.

Alarms never wait for a plan

Push and email alerts are free on every device and every plan, in year one and after it.
After year one

WiFi or cellular decides what comes next

Both start the same way. At month 12 they part ways.

  1. Year 1

    Premium access, free.

  2. At registration

Add payment details to keep the cellular service active. You are not charged until the first year ends.

  3. After year 1

A paid subscription keeps the device active, with an unlimited global data plan included.

Premium is included in the subscription.

Why cellular has no free tier

A cellular device brings its own connection. The subscription pays for that unlimited global data plan, and Premium comes with it.

No surprise charge

Your card is asked for at registration so the service never lapses. The first charge comes only when your free year ends.

WiFi keeps working

Do nothing and a WiFi device simply moves to the Free Standard tier. It keeps measuring, and email and push alarms keep coming.

Questions

Quick answers

Is there a free plan?

Yes, for WiFi devices. After the first year of Premium, a WiFi device rolls over to the Free Standard tier automatically and stays there unless you upgrade. Cellular devices have no free tier: from year two they need a paid subscription to stay active.

When does my free year of Premium start?

On the day you activate the device, not the day you bought it.

How much does Premium cost?

Why does a cellular device need payment details at registration?

So its cellular service stays active when the free year ends. You are not charged anything until that first year is over.

What do I keep on the Free Standard tier?

Live readings and alarms keep working. Data history and the raw data download in Excel cover the last 45 days. Advanced reports and adding new team members need Premium; people you already shared the device with keep their access.

Are email and push alerts really free?

Yes. App push notifications and email alerts are free for every device, whatever its plan.

How much do text and phone-call alarms cost?

A text message (SMS) costs about 1.5¢ and a phone call about 3.7¢, paid from prepaid credit. Every device comes with about $3.70 of free credit, which covers 250 text messages.

Text and voice alerts stop, but email and push notifications keep coming. You can top up from My Profile in the MaxLinc app at any time.
