For pharmacists

Your fridge, watched all night

EDGE Pharma WiFi checks your fridge every few minutes and sends its alarms over your pharmacy’s own WiFi. If it goes too warm or too cold for longer than the delay you set, it sends you an alarm.

This guide covers both WiFi models: EDGE Pharma One WiFi (one probe, one fridge) and EDGE Pharma Two WiFi (two probes, so one logger can watch two fridges).

An EDGE Pharma One WiFi logger with its temperature probe in a small buffer bottle.
How it works

Two clocks inside your logger

One clock writes down the temperature. The other sends it to the cloud. They run separately.

The two clocks inside your loggerThe logger saves a temperature every ten minutes, all day long. Once a day it sends every one of those saved readings up to the cloud together.RECORDING · every 10 minutessaves a temperature into its own memory12:0013:50SYNCING · once a day — the whole day’s readings go togetherCLOUD

Recording Intervalhow often it saves a temperature

Leave it at 10 minutes. That is 144 saves a day, kept inside the logger.

Syncing Intervalhow often it phones home

Leave it at 24 hours. This sets when your chart fills in. Alarms do not wait for it.

Alarms jump the queue

Your logger does not sit on bad news until the next sync. It sends the alarm straight away.

An alarm does not wait for the next syncThe same row of readings. One reading is out of range. Instead of waiting in the queue for the daily send, that reading takes a shortcut and goes out straight away.!12:40the ordinary queue — waits for the daily send!your alarm goes out nowdaily synccarries on as usualA long syncing interval slows your chart, not your alarm.

Power messages jump the queue too

Losing mains power and getting it back are alarms as well, so they do not wait for the Syncing Interval either.

No internet? Still recording.

If the WiFi drops, the logger keeps writing temperatures in its own memory. When WiFi returns, it sends everything.

USB-C power

Plug it in, sync faster

Your logger runs on four AA batteries. It behaves a little differently while it is plugged in.

What changes

Plugged into USB-C, the logger stops waiting for the daily send. It pushes its saved readings up every 15 minutes.

What does not change

Alarm speed. A reading outside your limits never waits for the next sync, plugged in or not.

Look for the bolt

A small lightning bolt on the fridge card means “External power connected”. Your saved Syncing Interval still reads 24 Hours.

What your WiFi needs

A 2.4 GHz network, a WPA or WPA2 password, and DHCP. It cannot join a guest network that shows a sign-in page. Register the logger in your account first, then press the right-hand SETUP button to start.
Power cuts

When the power goes out

A power cut is when a fridge is most at risk. A logger plugged into USB-C keeps working, and it tries to tell you.

It keeps recording

When the USB-C power drops, the logger switches to its AA batteries straight away and carries on saving temperatures.

It tells you quickly

It notices at its next recording: within 10 minutes at the recommended 10-minute Recording Interval, or within about a minute if it records every minute. Because this is an alarm, it does not then wait for the daily sync.

You are told twice

One message when the power goes. A second message when the power comes back.

Whether it reaches you depends on how the logger gets online

Why a WiFi logger cannot report its own power cutTwo cases. With mains power on, the logger reaches the router and the message gets to you. During a power cut the logger keeps running on batteries, but the router is dead too, so the message stops at the router.Power onACrouteryouthe message gets to youPower cutBATrouteryounothing gets out

The honest truth about WiFi

This logger sends nothing while your router is down, and the cut that threatens the fridge is usually the same cut that kills the router. In practice, the power-back message is the one that reaches you. If that gap matters on this fridge, the cellular model does not use your router at all.

Who hears about it

Everyone you share the fridge with hears about it, you included: by push notification, email and text message, each person on the channels turned on in their own profile. No mobile number in someone’s profile means no text for them; push turned off means no push. It never comes as a phone call.

Texts need two things

A mobile number confirmed in each person’s own profile, and text credit left on that logger. Otherwise that person’s text quietly fails.

What to do about it

Put a cellular logger on the fridge you can least afford to lose. Ask us to check that your power messages are switched on.

It watches itself too

A logger that has gone quiet is no use. Two things are checked for you.

Low battery

You get an email while there is still life left in the batteries, not once they are flat. Change all four at the same time, and keep the old ones out of the drawer.

Missed check-in

If the logger does not reach the server when it should, the system emails you to say no data has arrived. That covers a flat battery, a dead router and a unit someone unplugged. The switch for this is “No Connection Alarm”: keep it on.

Two kinds of alarm

One rings at the first bad reading. The other waits to see if the problem is real.

Immediately

Rings the moment one reading goes out of range. Very safe. Noisy when the door opens often.

If persist more than 15 min

Rings only if the fridge stays out of range for the whole 15 minutes. A quick door opening stays quiet.

Why the alarm waits fifteen minutesA temperature chart with a safe band from 2 to 8 °C (36 to 46 °F). A short spike at nine in the morning is someone opening the door, and the alarm stays quiet. A slow climb in the afternoon is a failing fridge, and the alarm rings.SAFE 2–8 °C (36–46 °F)8209:00 — door openedstays quiet15:00 — fridge failingrings15 min out of range

One delay covers both directions

The delay you pick applies to too warm and too cold alike. You cannot set a long warm delay and a short cold one, which is why we suggest the shorter, safer value.
Step by step

Fill in the probe card. The built-in room sensors can stay on “No Alarm”.

Which card do I fill in?

Fill in the card of every probe that sits in a fridge. On an EDGE Pharma One WiFi that is one temperature card, usually named TEMP I. On an EDGE Pharma Two WiFi there are two probe cards, one per probe, and each one needs its own 2 and 8: filling in one card does not fill in the other. The built-in Ambient Temperature and Relative Humidity cards measure the room, so leave those on “No Alarm” unless you want them.

The second probe port

Both WiFi models have a second temperature port, Port III. On a Pharma Two WiFi the second probe already uses it, so one logger watches two fridges, or the top and bottom of one. On a Pharma One WiFi it is spare: a second card appears once a probe is plugged in. Either way, set that card the same way, because a card left empty has no alarm on it. Probe cables are 1.5 m (5 ft) and extend to 15 m (50 ft) with 3 m (10 ft) extension cables; extend both probes by about the same length (within 3 m / 10 ft of each other).

Give it time

Your logger picks up new settings at its next sync. To apply them right away, press the SYNC button, the left button on the logger. Until it syncs, its card says “Unsynced settings” and the old numbers are still running.

Who gets the message

Email, text and phone calls are chosen once on your own profile page, under “Receive Alarms by”, not on each fridge.

Two ways to hear nothing

Both boxes empty means no alarm at all. Send Alarms switched off means silence too. Check both before you walk away.

The alarm labels are ours. In the app the list is four plain choices.

Who gets the alarm

Everyone on the list gets alarms, except a “Silent Viewer (No Alarm)”. That level is the only quiet one: it sees exactly what a Viewer sees. You, as the owner, are on every alarm and cannot be taken off.

Who can change settings

The settings gear is offered to an Editor and to Service & Maintenance. It is not offered to a Viewer.

No account yet?

Type their email anyway and click “Send Invitation email”. Access starts the moment they confirm their new account.

Sharing needs Premium

Without Premium on that logger you cannot add anyone new. Colleagues you already shared it with keep their access and their alarms. To take someone off, open “Share access” again and click the red bin beside their name.

To get calls

The phone rings with an automated voice, at any hour. Each call is paid from that logger’s credit. There is no do-not-disturb and no snooze.

This is per person, not per fridge

Every colleague sets their own channels. Changing yours changes nothing for anyone else, on any fridge.

Email and push are free

Email alarms reach everyone you share the logger with at no cost, and push notifications cost nothing. Only texts and phone calls draw on credit.

Starting credit: about $3.70

Every logger arrives with about $3.70 of alert credit. In Canada and the US that is enough for 250 texts at about 1.5¢ each, or 100 phone calls at about 3.7¢ each.

Topping up

When a logger runs low, buy more credit online from My Profile. Credit sits on each logger, so check the busy ones.

Dates and times

“Time zone” decides the times printed on every report, so set it before you print anything for an inspector. “Date Format” and “Time Format” are separate from “Language”.

Date and time formats only appear after you sign out and sign back in. The app tells you so.

One thing to check

Your health authority may ask for different numbers. Theirs win. Use ours when you have no rule to follow.

Set the fridge to 5

Set the fridge’s own dial near 5 °C (41 °F). That is your safety margin, not a tighter alarm.

Freezers: ask first

The EDGE Pharma probe is made for fridges: it reads down to −20 °C (−4 °F), which leaves no room in a freezer. Watch a freezer with EDGE Thermo, whose probes read down to −55 °C (−67 °F). Not sure which probe? Talk to us.

What “No Connection Alarm” does

It watches for readings arriving, not for temperature. If the logger misses its scheduled sync (flat battery, dead router, unit unplugged), you get an email saying no data has arrived. At a 24-hour Syncing Interval that is a next-day warning, not an instant one, and it goes quiet after a week of silence. Leave it on: the readings stay safe inside the logger, but while it is offline no alarm can reach you.

Right way, wrong way

The vaccine version

“Vaccine Temperature Report” adds opening and closing readings. Tick “Min/Max” yourself: it starts unticked, so the default report has no daily minimum or maximum in it.

Two things to know

This report needs Premium on that logger; on the free tier only “Detailed readouts” opens. And the vaccine report’s “Vaccine Outrange Time” column counts against a fixed 2 °C (36 °F) and 7.8 °C (46.0 °F), not against the limits you typed.

Do I have Premium on this logger?

Look for the small diamond in the top corner of the fridge’s card. A diamond means Premium, and Advanced Reports will open. No diamond means that logger is on the free plan. Premium is bought and managed from My Profile.

What is MKT?

MKT is one number that sums up total heat damage over a period. The “Vaccine Temperature Report” has a “Mean Kinetic Temperature (MKT)” tickbox that works it out for you. The “Min/ Max/ Average daily report” has no MKT option.
Access

What free gives you

Every logger comes with its first year of Premium, starting the day you register it.

The free Standard tier keeps

  • Live temperatures, the dashboard and the fridge card.
  • Every alarm: email, text, phone call and push.
  • Charts and records going back 45 days.
  • The “Detailed readouts” report (your raw readings, to download to Excel), for those same 45 days.

Premium adds

  • Your full history, back past 45 days.
  • Every other report, including Min/Max and the vaccine report.
  • Automatic reports, sent to you on a schedule.
  • Sharing a fridge with someone new, and handing one over.

It is per logger

Premium is bought for one logger, not for your pharmacy and not for each person. An EDGE Pharma Two WiFi watching two fridges needs only one. The diamond on a card tells you that logger has it.

Nothing fails quietly

On the free tier the Create and Automatic Report buttons of every other report are locked, and clicking one tells you Premium access is needed; it never just returns an empty report. If you already had an automatic report scheduled, the system emails you to say your Premium access has expired.

Where to manage it

My Profile, under “Access and Credit Management”. Each logger has its own row and its own remaining days. Texts and calls draw on a separate credit balance.

After the first free year

Premium is about $17.78 per logger per year (about $1.48 a month), billed annually. Bought per logger, not per pharmacy. Without it, the logger keeps every alarm on the free Standard tier.
Questions

Questions pharmacists ask

What alarm limits should a vaccine fridge use?
Set Send alarm if Below to 2 °C (36 °F) and Send alarm if Above to 8 °C (46 °F). That matches the standard 2 to 8 °C vaccine storage range. Do not narrow it: your alarm should ring at the same point your health authority counts as a reportable excursion. If your health authority asks for different numbers, theirs win.
Why not set the alarm to 3 and 7 for an early warning?
Because the event you must report is defined at 2 and 8. An alarm inside the range would ring on temperatures that are still perfectly safe, and your records would stop matching the event your health authority asks about. Build your safety margin into the fridge thermostat instead, by setting it near 5 °C (41 °F).
Does a long Syncing Interval delay my alarm?
No. A long syncing interval slows your chart, not your alarm. Ordinary readings wait for the next sync to fill in your chart; a reading that goes out of range does not wait for that schedule. What does hold an alarm back is the Alarm Trigger Delay you chose: on “If persist more than 15 min” the logger has to see 15 minutes out of range before it sends anything.
How do I get a minimum and maximum temperature report?
Select your fridge on the dashboard, click the Advanced Reports button, then click Create on Min/ Max/ Average daily report. Choose your From and To dates, click Generate Report, and download it as Excel or PDF. That report always includes a minimum and a maximum for every day. It needs Premium on that logger.
Does the Vaccine Temperature Report show min and max?
Only if you tick the Min/Max checkbox yourself. It starts unticked, so a report run with the default settings contains opening and closing temperatures but no daily minimum or maximum.
Will I be told if the power goes out?
If the logger runs on USB-C power, yes: it switches to its AA batteries and reports the cut at its next recording (within 10 minutes at a 10-minute Recording Interval, within about a minute if it records every minute), then sends a second message when power comes back. Both go to everyone the logger is shared with, by push notification, email and text message, each person on the channels turned on in their own profile; neither comes as a phone call. The important catch: a WiFi logger sends nothing while your router is down, and a mains cut usually takes the router down too, so in practice the message you receive is the one sent when power comes back. A cellular logger has its own connection and is not affected.
Does plugging the logger into USB-C make alarms arrive faster?
No. While it is plugged in, the logger syncs its saved readings every 15 minutes instead of once a day, so your chart fills in through the day. Alarm speed is unchanged, because a reading outside your limits never waits for the next sync anyway.
Which colleagues get the alarms when I share a fridge?
Everyone you share it with gets alarms except the level called Silent Viewer (No Alarm), which sees exactly what a Viewer sees but stays quiet. You, as the owner, are always on the list. Each colleague chooses their own email, text, call and push settings on their own profile page.
What do I lose when the free year of Premium ends?
Nothing that protects stock. Live temperatures and every alarm keep working on the free Standard tier, and charts and records go back 45 days. What you lose is reporting: only the Detailed readouts report (your raw readings, for Excel) still opens, and only for those 45 days. Every other report and every automatic report is locked, and clicking one tells you Premium is needed rather than returning an empty file. If you had an automatic report scheduled, the system emails you to say your access has expired. The diamond on the logger’s card disappears when it moves to the free tier.
What do text and phone-call alarms cost?
Email alarms to everyone you share the logger with, and push notifications, are always free. Texts and phone calls draw on a credit balance held per logger. Every logger arrives with about $3.70 of credit, enough for 250 texts at about 1.5¢ each or 100 phone calls at about 3.7¢ each in Canada and the US. You can buy more credit online from My Profile.
What does Premium cost after the free year?
Premium is about $17.78 per logger per year (about $1.48 a month), billed annually. It is bought per logger, not per pharmacy and not per person, and you manage it from My Profile under Access and Credit Management.
Why did my new alarm setting not take effect straight away?
Your logger picks up new settings the next time it syncs. To apply them immediately, press the SYNC button on the logger. Until then its card shows Unsynced settings and the old limits and delay are still running on the device.
