EDGE year 1 is the device price, with year 1 of service included, then about $26.67 a year, so 3 years = the device + 2 years of plan and 5 years = the device + 4 (our plan is billed in Canadian dollars, so those totals are approximate). MarCELL needs its plan every year, starting with the first: $95.96 + $99 = $194.96 for year 1, $95.96 + 3 × $99 = $392.96 for 3 years and $95.96 + 5 × $99 = $590.96 for 5. Its figures are from its own site on October 14, 2026: that day's sale price and its cheapest, annual plan. At the $119.95 on MarCELL's compare page, its year 1 is $218.95.

Doesn't a plug-in device like MarCELL have an advantage?
For power cuts, yes: plugged in, it always knows when the power drops. EDGE Cellular does this too when it runs on USB-C: it reports the cut at its next recording (every 10 minutes by default) by push, email and text. The difference is placement: MarCELL needs an outlet and lists up to 48 hours on its backup battery, while EDGE Cellular runs on its own 4 AA batteries (about 2 years) and can go anywhere.
Does EDGE Cellular need WiFi or a hub?
No. Cellular is built in and it connects out of the box: nothing to pair, no WiFi password, no base station. It also works on WiFi if you have it. That is the same convenience that draws people to MarCELL.
What does the ~$26.67/yr plan cover from year 2?
The cellular network and the Premium cloud: full history, advanced reports and sharing. It is billed annually (about $2.22/month per device) with no contract, and year 1 is included with the device. Can I monitor an unheated cabin, crawl space or RV with it?
Yes, that is what it is built for. It runs on batteries with built-in cellular, so it can go anywhere: cabins without WiFi, crawl spaces without outlets, RVs and trailers. Below 0 °C (32 °F) the screen stops updating and says so; logging and alarms carry on.
