What does a MaxLinc logger do?+

MaxLinc makes smart environmental data loggers that track temperature, humidity, CO2, air quality, pressure, current and more — and instantly call, text or email you if a reading drifts out of range. Every EDGE and BLOCK logger is designed and built in Vancouver, BC and includes a free cloud dashboard.

What's the difference between EDGE and BLOCK?+

EDGE is the everyday line for temperature, humidity and air quality — with an on-device screen, buzzer and visible alarm — in matched WiFi and Cellular versions. BLOCK is the industrial/retrofit line with plug-in sensors for pressure, current, pulse counting and 4-20 mA loops, where the calibration lives with the swappable sensor.

Should I choose WiFi, Cellular or NFC?+

WiFi connects to your existing 2.4 GHz network and keeps a free cloud tier forever. Cellular has a built-in eSIM and needs no WiFi, though it can use WiFi too (first year included, then about $26.67 a year, billed annually, which works out to about $2.22 a month). NFC loggers are single-use, waterproof tags for cold-chain shipments that you read with a phone tap, with no subscription ever.

What EDGE variants are available?+

Essential (room temperature + humidity), Essential PLUS (a fixed high-accuracy temperature + humidity probe, Sensirion SHT45, instead of a built-in sensor), Thermo (two external temperature probes down to -55 °C / -67 °F, for fridges and freezers), Pharma One and Pharma Two (one or two buffered, NIST-traceable probes with calibration certificate, for vaccine and pharmacy fridges), and Air (CO2, VOC and air quality).

How do I know which product I need?+

Each industry page on maxlinc.com (food service, pharmacy, HVAC, cold chain, museums, healthcare, property management, industrial) recommends a configuration, and the shop's picker helps you choose. Or email Support@MaxLinc.com and we'll spec it for you.

Subscription & cloud

Do I need a subscription?+

No — on WiFi, devices keep working free forever on the Standard tier: live data, all alarms, 45 days of history and Excel export (email and push alerts are free; texts and calls use the ~$3.70 alert credit included with every device). Every device includes its first year of Premium; after that, Premium is optional on WiFi at about $17.78/year (about $1.48/month), billed annually, for advanced reports, full history and sharing with new people. Cellular devices include everything for the first year, then about $26.67/year (about $2.22/month) per device, billed annually, with no contract. NFC MicroTherm tags never need a subscription: sharing, out-of-range alerts, full history and all reports are free.

Why isn't cellular free like WiFi?+

Cellular units include a built-in eSIM that pays for its own mobile data, so the subscription after year one (~$26.67/year, billed annually, which works out to ~$2.22/month) covers the network. WiFi units use your own internet, so there's nothing to pay. Many competing systems charge around $25/month per device, forever.

What do I lose if I don't pay for Premium?+

On WiFi, nothing critical — the device keeps recording and sending alarms, and you keep live data, the most recent 45 days of history and Excel export. Premium adds advanced reports (Create Report and Automatic Report), full history and sharing a device with new users (people you already shared it with keep their access). Cellular devices need their ~$26.67/year plan (~$2.22/month, billed annually) after the first year to stay connected.

Is the dashboard an app I have to install?+

No. It's a progressive web app that runs in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer — nothing to download from an app store. On a phone you can optionally add it to your home screen so it behaves like an app.

Where is my data stored?+

On Canadian cloud servers, with daily backups and redundancy — a deliberate data-residency and privacy choice. The dashboard interface is available in more than 20 languages.

Can several people share one account with different permissions?+

Yes. Devices are shared by role: Owner (full control), Editor (settings and thresholds), Viewer (read-only), Silent Viewer (read-only, no alarms) and Service & Maintenance (for technicians). With Premium (included for every device's first year, and always on cellular) you can share with as many people as you like, and each of them can receive alarms. On the free Standard tier, people you already shared with keep their access and alarms, but you cannot add anyone new.

Can I export my data or integrate with other systems?+

Yes. On the free Standard tier you can export raw readings to Excel. With Premium (included for each device's first year), any report exports to PDF or Excel and can be scheduled to email automatically. For integrations, data APIs and real-time alarm webhooks can push readings into an ERP, BMS or SCADA system.

Setup & connectivity

How hard is setup?+

Tool-free and quick. For WiFi you connect the device to your network in the app and you're monitoring in minutes — no installer needed. Cellular units connect themselves over the built-in eSIM.

What are the WiFi requirements?+

The device joins any standard 2.4 GHz network (it does not use 5 GHz). During setup you briefly connect your phone to the device's temporary hotspot, a setup page opens, and you pick your network and enter the password. A short beep pattern confirms success.

Do cellular units need a SIM card or a contract?+

No SIM to insert and no carrier contract. The eSIM is built in and works across 170+ countries with no roaming charges. Year one of connectivity is included; after that it's covered by the ~$26.67/year plan (~$2.22/month, billed annually).

Can a cellular unit fall back to WiFi?+

Yes. Cellular units can also connect to WiFi and roll over between the two automatically, so you keep coverage if one path drops.

Is the data real-time?+

Alarms are effectively real-time — a threshold breach uploads and alerts you immediately. Routine readings upload on a sync interval you choose (1 minute to 24 hours), set separately from how often the device records, so more frequent syncing gives finer data at the cost of battery.

What happens if the internet or power drops — do I lose data?+

No. The logger keeps recording to internal memory while offline (tens of thousands of readings) and uploads everything it missed as soon as it reconnects, so your history has no gaps.

Battery & power

How long does the battery last?+

Up to 3 years on 4 standard AA batteries for EDGE WiFi and BLOCK WiFi models, and up to 2 years for EDGE Cellular. Real life depends on recording and upload settings, signal, temperature, battery quality and alarms.

Can I run it on USB power instead of batteries?+

Yes — EDGE and BLOCK units accept USB-C power and switch to it automatically when plugged in, falling back to batteries if external power is lost. That's ideal for permanent installations.

Will it warn me before the batteries die?+

Yes. The device shows a low-battery indicator and the cloud sends a low-battery email alert. Always replace all the batteries at the same time with fresh, good-quality AA cells.

Alarms & alerts

How will I be alerted if something goes wrong?+

By SMS text, automated phone call, email and mobile push notification, plus an audible buzzer and visible alarm on the device itself. Alerts repeat until the reading is back within your limits; anyone can acknowledge an alarm with a note, and the log keeps their name, the time and the comment.

Can I send alerts to more than one person?+

Yes. Each person is added by sharing the device with them, and each controls their own text, call and push preferences. With Premium (included for the first year, and always included on cellular) you can add as many people as you like. On the free Standard tier, people already on the list keep their alarms, but adding someone new needs Premium.

Will I get flooded with false alarms?+

No — the system has a four-level alarm engine: instant (threshold cross), persistent/delayed (only if the condition holds), trend/drift (warns before a limit is breached), and event-based (flood or door contact). Cumulative time-weighted alarms are also available, such as an 8-hour average CO2 exposure.

Do text and phone-call alerts cost anything?+

Email and push alerts are always free and unlimited. Texts and automated phone calls draw from a prepaid credit on the device: every device ships with about $3.70 of credit (enough for 250 texts); each text costs about 1.5¢ and each call about 3.7¢. You can top it up from My Profile. If credit runs out, texts and calls pause but email and push keep working. You verify your phone number once first.

Will it tell me if a device goes offline?+

Yes. A no-connection alarm notifies you if a device hasn't reported within an expected window, and low-battery and power-change alerts are also available.

Is there a compliance audit trail?+

Yes. When someone acknowledges an alarm, the who, when and why is written to a tamper-proof, read-only record that can't be edited or deleted — built to support FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and insurance requirements.

Accuracy & compliance

How accurate is it, and is there a calibration certificate?+

Every product page lists that model's temperature, humidity and CO2 accuracy. EDGE Pharma probes are NIST-traceable and come with a calibration certificate, valid up to 5 years on the shelf and 3 years in use.

How do the NIST calibration certificates work?+

The certificate is issued to the sensor/probe, not the whole device, and ships with the probe. You can look one up without logging in — enter the probe's ID or scan its QR code to see the issue date, valid/expired status and download the certificate PDF.

How do I renew a calibration — do I ship the device back?+

No. Because calibration lives with the sensor, you just buy a newly calibrated probe and plug it in — no downtime and no shipping the whole unit away. The cloud emails you before a certificate expires. A NIST-calibrated replacement probe is CA$49; email Support@MaxLinc.com with your logger model to order one.

How long is a calibration certificate valid?+

Up to five years from its issue date while the probe is still on the shelf, and three years once the probe is put into service. The exact expiry date is printed on the certificate and tracked automatically in the cloud.

Which compliance frameworks does MaxLinc support?+

MaxLinc is built to support record keeping for HACCP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, VFC/CDC vaccine storage and GxP/GMP/GDP workflows, with immutable audit logs and NIST-traceable certificates tied to each EDGE Pharma probe. Your own procedures and validation determine compliance.

What reports can it generate?+

With Premium (included for each device's first year): 12 report types, including Food Safety, Vaccine Temperature, VPD (vapour pressure deficit), Min/Max/Average Daily and Transport Log, all exportable to PDF or Excel and schedulable by email. The free Standard tier on WiFi keeps a raw data download in Excel for the last 45 days.

Ordering & payment

How can I pay?+

Through PayPal, which securely handles Apple Pay, Google Pay and Visa / Mastercard / American Express. You don't need a PayPal account to pay by card, and we never store your card details.

Which currency do you charge in?+

In US dollars. Orders shipping to the United States are priced and charged in USD, and checkout shows your total in US dollars before you pay.

Do I need an account to order?+

No — checkout is guest-friendly: no account or password needed.

Shipping, returns & warranty

Where do you ship, and how much is it?+

Across the United States, and to Canada. Shipping is free on US orders over $100; smaller orders pay a flat shipping rate, shown at checkout before you pay. You can also choose a faster, paid UPS service, such as Expedited or Express Saver, priced live by UPS at checkout. For orders outside these regions, contact Support@MaxLinc.com.

How fast will my order arrive?+

In-stock orders are processed and shipped within 1-3 business days, and standard delivery within North America generally takes 3-5 business days (not guaranteed). NFC 50-packs can also be backordered when out of stock; a backorder ships in about 60 days.

What's your return policy?+

We accept returns and exchanges up to 30 days after delivery, for both defective and non-defective items in new, unused condition with original packaging. A logger you registered in the app but did not install still counts as new; activated NFC tags and installed water meters cannot be returned. Return shipping is free and there are no restocking fees; refunds are issued through PayPal, which processed your payment, within about 7 days. Email Support@MaxLinc.com to start one.

Can I cancel or change my order?+

Yes, before it ships. Email Support@MaxLinc.com with your order number, and we cancel it free of charge if it has not shipped yet.

What warranty do the devices carry?+

Every MaxLinc EDGE and BLOCK logger carries a 24-month limited warranty, counted from the date of purchase (your invoice date). Registering the device in the app does not start or change the warranty, and accessories and NFC tags carry the same warranty. It covers defects in materials or workmanship under normal use and maintenance. If a product or part is found to be defective during the warranty period, we repair or replace it at no charge.

What does the warranty not cover?+

The warranty does not cover consumable parts, such as batteries or hanger stickers; cosmetic damage, including scratches or cracked or broken enclosures; damage caused by accidents, abuse, misuse, liquid contact, fire, earthquakes or other external causes; or defects caused by tampering or repairs performed by unauthorized persons.

What warranty applies to a replacement product or part?+

Whichever is longer: the remaining warranty of the original product, or 180 days from the date of replacement or repair. For example, a logger replaced in month 23 of its warranty is still covered for 180 days after the replacement, not just the one month that was left.

Will I owe duties or customs fees?+

Orders shipping within Canada never go through customs. US logger orders are not shipped duties-paid: any local duty or tax billed on delivery is yours. Every US shipment includes a CUSMA certificate, and our Canadian-made loggers are exempt from US duty. Any US order that includes NFC tag packs ships DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): duties and customs fees for the whole order are already included, so there is nothing to pay at the border.

NFC loggers

What are the NFC loggers for?+

They're single-use temperature loggers you drop into a parcel or shipment, and they're waterproof, so ice slush or a wet tote won't stop them. On arrival, anyone with the free NFC app set to your account email taps the tag with an iPhone or Android phone, and the whole trip uploads to your MaxLinc account, with no gateway and no login for the person scanning. If any reading was outside your limits, everyone you share the account with gets an email and a push notification at that moment. Sharing, alerts and all reports are free, with no subscription.

What app reads them, and how do they work?+

The free MaxLinc NFC app, listed as LoggerFlex NFC Tag Reader on the App Store and Google Play. Activate a tag by pressing the button three times within two seconds; as standard it records temperature every 10 minutes, holds about 4,000 readings (roughly four weeks) and stops recording when the memory is full, and a free custom setup chosen on the product page can change the interval (1 minute to 24 hours), the start delay and alarm limits, or switch to continuous mode; its battery lasts about a year after activation. No login is needed to scan — a registered email routes the data to your MaxLinc cloud account.
